Simple pleasures

  • Mood: Thankful!!!
  • Music: Bon Jovi Box Set ~ disk 1
  • Eating/Drinking: Cappuccino
  • Thinking About... My wonderful parents!
I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex.
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891
Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)

This weekend I took my parents out to eat to celebrate their birthdays. Dad's was the 12th and Mom's will be the 24th. We went to Carraba's, a fabulous Italian place. We had such a wonderful time. Although my parent's don't live far at all, it seems that LIFE prevents us from seeing one another nearly as much as we would like. This was a quality visit. Good food, and even better Lottsa love, laughter and talking.

I have to credit My husband Mike's mission trip to Haiti as the catalyst that made me realize how much I miss something so simple as dinner with my parents. While he was gone for 10 days, the last week in January and the 1st week of Feb, my parents felt the need to "look after" Max and I. During the 10 day stretch we went out to eat with them once and to their house for dinner twice! LOL Not counting major holidays that would be more then we had sat down to eat with them in the last year!

When Mike returned they took all three of us out for steak so they could hear all about the trip which I though was so sweet as they really hadn't made it a big secret that they were less then thrilled by him going. My dad is very protective of his "little girl" and was a bit grumpy that Mike was leaving me alone and going out of the country. As much as they admire his heart they wanted him home safe and sound with their daughter and grandson!

ANYWAY...the whole point of this post is ...don't forget the simple pleasures. Make the time...TAKE the time for your family. It will be these times that you remember for a life time. Life is way too short and WAY too unpredictable not to.

PEACE!

~Hussy~

Aww TT, these were my thoughts exactly! Another TT strike, but you got yours done first! Yesterday was one of the happiest days I have had in a long time. I spent all day laughing, chatting, and filling my belly with wonderful food with my mom's side of the family. We laughed so hard sometimes that it made the back of my head ache and my cheeks hurt. While simple, it was a day that I will probably never forget. Sometimes, it is a bit sad, thinking back to when my grandma was still with us. She loved the holidays so much...and my cousin that was killed just a month after she died...but I know they are with us in spirit. So much tragedy in such a short amount of time HAS taught us all to cherish every moment that we can together. Like you said, none of us ever know what today or tomorrow will hold for us or those we love. Family time is one of the most precious things that people too often take for granted. [Hugs] I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner with your family and that Mike made it back safely to his!

Can I hear an AMEN? I totally enjoyed this glimpse into somethings that bring you joy, Sis! And I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY with your reminder that we take time to enjoy the simpler things in life - - - it's not always the GRAND things that happen to us that we reflect upon in latter days, but those small things that filled our hearts to overflowing that will bring the biggest smiles and give the deepest comfort!

PLUSSS ~ It feels so damned good at the time! LOL! :)

Great post! I'd have to agree with your message. Life is too short to not care about those that really matter.

how lovely...we will have a family get-together at Easter Sunday at my grandparents'. Family being my aunt, uncle, my two cousins, my great-grandmother, my grandparents, my parents and myself. Not that big of a crowd but that's the usual size of our family. The rest..well, I don't care anyway if I see them or not.

But those times like for Easter when the weather is good and you spontanuously don't just spend the morning but entire day up to dinner together just enjoying the sun and being harmoniously together for once...that is nice.

And it's really important to take in the simple pleasures of life...like in my case today, spending the afternoon talking to one of my best friends and ignoring uni work! LOL

thanks for this lovely entry sis! Love ya
